Nobody gives you a list when you arrive in Canggu.
You figure things out as you go.
Which road to take in the morning. Where you can leave your scooter. How long it actually takes to get somewhere. Which plans are worth keeping and which ones can wait.
Most of it is not difficult.
You just need to be here for a while.
These are a few things nobody really tells you about Canggu.
Rule #1: Your Saved Places Will Eventually Become Irrelevant
When you first arrive, you probably have a list.
Places a friend recommended. A few saved posts on Instagram. Restaurants someone told you not to miss.
Give it a couple of weeks and the list usually gets forgotten.
You find places you actually like. Maybe they are close to where you are staying. Maybe you like the food. Maybe you just keep ending up there.
It does not have to be the most popular place in Canggu.
It just becomes one of yours.
Rule #2: Take a Photo of Your Scooter
You will eventually forget where you parked.
You will be sure it was somewhere around here.
It probably was.
But after twenty minutes of walking around the same few streets, every scooter starts to look familiar.
Take a photo before you walk away.
You will be glad you did.
Rule #3: You Won’t Get Through Your Whole List
There is always more to do.
You can start the day with breakfast, head to the beach, stop somewhere for lunch, get some work done, fit in a workout and still have dinner plans across town.
You might manage it once.
Most days, something will get in the way.
Lunch takes longer. You stop somewhere on the way. You decide to stay out a little longer.
By the evening, half the list is still sitting on your phone.
That is fine.
There is always tomorrow.
Rule #4: Your Laptop Will Come With You
For many people, Canggu is not a holiday in the usual sense.
There is still work to finish.
A meeting in the morning. A few emails after lunch. Something that needs to be sent before the end of the day.
The difference is what happens when you close the laptop.
You might head to the beach.
You might meet someone for dinner.
Or you might just sit outside for a while before going back to your room.
Work is still work.
The rest of the day is up to you.
Rule #5: You Start Knowing People Without Really Knowing Them
You see the same faces often enough.
The person who walks their dog every morning.
Someone who takes their surfboard down the same road.
The staff member you have seen a few times during your stay.
You might never actually learn their names.
But you notice them.
A small nod becomes a hello. A hello becomes a short conversation.
That is how a place starts becoming familiar.
A Familiar Place to Come Back To
The same thing happens at The Komu.
Some guests arrive with a short itinerary and end up extending their stay. Others return months later and already know their way around.
They head out in the morning, spend the day around Canggu, then come back when they are ready.
The Komu becomes part of that routine without needing to be the reason for it.
A place to leave your things.
A place to come back to.
A familiar part of the day.
For someone visiting Canggu for the first time, there is a lot to figure out.
The roads.
The scooters.
The timing.
Then one day, you realise you are no longer checking.
You just know.
