We’re excited to introduce KoRang, the new mascot of The Komu.
KoRang is the result of a special creative collaboration between The Komu and Singaporean illustrator & visual artist Toby Tan, also known as Tobyato. This partnership blends The Komu’s identity, Tobyato’s bold artistic style, and the cultural richness of Bali—creating a mascot that truly represents all three.
The Birth of KoRang
KoRang is more than just a mascot.
He represents who we are and the vibrant community we connect with every day. The name “KoRang” combines “Komu” and “Rangda,” merging our brand with one of Bali’s most iconic mythological figures.
By blending modern design with cultural storytelling, KoRang becomes a character that sits perfectly at the intersection of art, culture, and community.
Who Is Rangda?
To understand KoRang, we look back at Rangda—the inspiration behind his name.
Rangda is a legendary figure in Balinese mythology, often portrayed as a powerful guardian with mystical strength. She appears in many traditional performances and is known for her role as a protector against negative forces.
By integrating elements of Rangda into KoRang’s personality and design, we honor Bali’s heritage while celebrating themes of strength, protection, and creativity.
About Tobyato
KoRang wouldn’t exist without the artistic direction of Tobyato, a well-loved illustrator and visual artist from Singapore.
His work is known for bold lines, playful characters, and vibrant energy. Many of his pieces appear in public installations, creative spaces, and galleries around the region.
Tobyato’s vision aligns naturally with The Komu’s values—creativity, connection, and community-focused design—making this collaboration a perfect match.
Designing KoRang
KoRang brings together everything we love:
-
The Komu’s contemporary aesthetic
-
Tobyato’s expressive, character-driven art
-
The mystical, cultural power of Rangda
The design process was a collaborative journey. Tobyato drew inspiration from The Komu’s lively atmosphere, Bali’s deep cultural roots, and the distinctive energy of Canggu.
The result is a mascot that feels bold, modern, meaningful, and full of Canggu vibes.
